The much awaited Magento 2.0 is now made public for general availability. Post launch of the anticipated version, we find everything one has to know about it, its upgrade, maintenance of the Magento 1.x support till upgrade, and, etc. If you are an early adopter, it is the right time to upgrade, or else you may have to wait for some more time to know about the bugs and its fixation before opting for its upgrade. However, the Magento people would discontinue the updates for Magento 1.x after 15th November 2015, but will continue its support. Either way, it is better to upgrade the website by 2016, and of course, not in 2017.
Some of the key features of Magento 2.0 are enlisted below.
- Performance improvements such as full page caching, Varnish 4 support HHVM3.6 compatibility, improvised layout, reduced JS code, and more.
- Database improvements for managing orders and checking out.
- Simple checkout process, elimination of guest or registered checkout, open account with much ease, automated shipping options, detection of credit card type through its number, and more.
- A new look and feel, facility to customize admin grid/user, add bulk images, pricing, visual editor, and, etc.
However, one must keep in mind that the upgrade is not going to be a single click, but a complete rework. As a result, the themes, extensions, or the customization must be rewritten so as to make it work with the new version.
One more added advantage is that some of the popular themes or the extensions (of Magento 1.x) already work on this version. And, the core data such as products, orders, customers, store configurations, promotions, and, etc., could be migrated as such from Magento 1.x to Magento 2.0., which saves a bit of time for the large and multi-store merchants.
Just chill, and move ahead to update your Magento store and rewrite your e-commerce store for the present day.
